Project Strategies
Capacity Building and Strengthening
We hold training sessions for the beneficiaries of our projects in life skills, including interpersonal communication, negotiation, and advocacy/ lobbying skills. Through our Economic Empowerment Project, we also train our beneficiaries in business and financial management, and provide them with knowledge and skills in the fabrication and/ or production of commodities and processed goods to increase their capacity for effective and sustainable income-generation activities. Among other aspects, these training complement our behaviour change activities and serve to enable:
- Women targeted by the project to engage more sustainably in income-generating activities for economic independence
- Ex-circumcisers to have alternative means of livelihood, abandon FGM/C and advocate for abandonment
- Obstetric fistula survivors to have a source of livelihood, and regain their dignity and the respect of their community members following their reintegration into their communities
Our programme staff, support groups and partners (health workers; religious leaders; village support and development groups; ex-circumcisers and their assistants; traditional communicators; and men, women and youth groups) are trained in the different components of our projects and on key messages and materials targeting our project beneficiaries, as they relate to them, for the effective implementation of our overall programme.
